James Perry "Jim" Lester Sr., age 82, of Battle Creek, died at home surrounded by his loved ones Friday August 11, 2017. James, the son of Shirley Lester and Eula Mae Self was born in Flint, MI on October 28th 1934; he was a life long resident of Michigan and resided in the Battle Creek area for the last 30 years. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961, receiving a medical discharge. After serving his country he became an Electrician and belong to the Electrical Workers Union while working for Jed Products, which later become Stanley Magic Door. He retired in 1984 and spent his retirement years enjoying his children, grandchildren and building and showing his classic cars.

James was an avid classic car enthusiast. He loved anything that had to do with cars, from collecting to participating/attending car shows. He was always working in his garage working on something that had to do with cars. James belonged to several of the area car clubs and met many life long friends. Besides his family, cars were his passion.

James was united in marriage to Nancy Jean Brondyke in Berkley, MI on January 9, 1965. Surviving are his daughters, Cheri L. (Kevin) Douglas of Dayton, OH, Annett (Tim) Mulcahy of Rochester Hills,MI; his sons, James P. Lester Jr. of Battle Creek, and Michael Lichtman of Shelby Township; several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy; his parents; his brother, Marion; and his sister, Carolyn.

The Graveside Service with full military honors to celebrate James' life will be held on Friday, August 18th at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI, with Rev. Robert G. Muirhead, officiating. A Celebration of Life Service for James will be held on Sunday, August 20th at the American Legion Post #298, 228 N. 20th Street, Battle Creek from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in James' honor may be directed to The American Cancer Society. Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek is assisting James' family with his arrangements.
